The article deals with functional-semantic characteristics of verbs with the meaning of deception and cheating. The author reveals 48 units of the concerned lexico-semantic group and singles out their distinctive features using the method of componential analysis. The conclusion is made about the most common verbs and most frequent discourse styles. The author identifies the types of meaning transfer functioning in some verbs of the analysed group and makes the conclusion about the causes of their narrow use. The differential semantic features actualized in most of the analyzed units are indicated.
