This work is a cross-cultural analysis performed in the areas of cognitive linguistics, linguistic semantics, cultural linguistics and discourse analysis. Only at the end of the 20th century the direction of a metaphor research changed its perspective, and the metaphor began to be considered as a mental process, as a knowledge mechanism. From this point of view the given work is assumed to be timely, making a feasible contribution to a research of both a linguocultural concept, and a conceptual metaphor in a literary discourse for the purpose of identification of the deep meanings concealed by the author.

A certain degree of novelty of the presented research consists in connecting componential analysis of lexical semantics and conceptual analysis.

This work is conducted on the material of W.S. Maugham`s "Theatre". The object of consideration is literary discourse.

Identification of fundamental senses in the work "Theatre" by the outstanding British writer and playwright W.S. Maugham was an objective of this research. In the given work both the conceptual analysis and the componential analysis of the main character Julia Lambert`s sphere of concepts was used.

At the first stage of the research the lexico-semantic group of the words and expressions representing a concept "theater" and relating to the language (speech) identity of the main character Julia Lambert was allocated (verbal and semantic and cognitive levels were considered).

At the 2nd stage the componential analysis of sememe structure of LSG "theatre" was carried out and the microsystem of fundamental meanings of this metaphorical model was revealed. We discovered that in this novel the metaphorical Model "Reality Is a Theatre" – stands out; (Reality is the World of Make-believe).

The componential analysis of the revealed lexico-semantic group of the words representing a concept "theater" showed a microsystem of the meanings having two main ones at its core: LIE, belonging to the concept sphere of theater – TRUTH, concerning the concept sphere of reality
