In this article we consider the most commonly used ways of forming the single-component and multi-component terms of International Humanitarian Law in multi-structured English and Russian languages.

We have studied totally 1249 terms in Russian and 1189 terms in English functioning in the language for special purposes in the field of International Humanitarian Law.

The study of legal terminology, which is essentially humanitarian, is nowadays of particular importance, since business contacts in the field of law have expanded significantly throughout the world. The expansion of interstate relations in the field of law has led to the number of special lexical units increasing (both originally national and borrowed), which provide professional communication.

The object of the research is the Russian and English terminology that nominates concepts related to International Humanitarian Law.

The study revealed that formation of the International Humanitarian Law terminology as a system is a long and multi-stage process at each stage of which the degree of ordering of the terminological material increases.
