This paper discusses the difficulties of teaching Magistracy students and undergraduates from non-linguistic Universities to translate patents. The process of translating patents acts as a means to learn any foreign language, as a technique to develop reading and understanding skills. According to the Federal State Educational Standard of Higher Vocational Education, Magistracy students must be prepared to translate Patent descriptions to ensure the purity of new design solutions and their patentability. In addition, mastering these competencies is facilitated by: the growing need to exchange scientific and technical information; the need for intercultural communication; the search for means to solve scientific and professional cooperation problems, IT growth and the opportunities emerging under these conditions. It is known that taking in to account the problem of translation Patents are recognized as the most sophisticated type of technical documents, having very rigid structure and requiring good knowledge of each section contents. So the author notes that when teaching patents translation, special attention should be paid to the presentation form. The paper presents the author's recommendations on teaching students to translate patents: 1. study theoretical material (structure, language, grammatical features, cliche); 2. do preparatory exercises; 3. work on patent translation (pre-translational analysis, post-translation commentary, verification of translation with a teacher).
