This article examines conflict classifications, its reasons and its prevention and resolution strategies. It particularly focuses on the conflicts arising in the university ESL classroom and on the increasing necessity to educate future teachers in the field of educational conflictology. The article also presents an analysis of the interviews conducted to classify these conflict situations as specific or non-specific for the ESL domain. Finally, potential research areas in educational conflictology are outlined.

On the basis of the conducted research the authors have come to the conclusion that despite the fact that conflicts arising in the university ESL classroom can mainly be described as general, they still remain specific owing to the higher likelihood of their occurrence and the wide range of management strategies. The authors also present pedagogical cases based on the gathered empirical data, which can be used when teaching educational conflictology to future language teachers.
