The paper considers the contaminated discourse of Internet users, referring to abbreviations as a means of direct communication in the virtual media. Hence, the task is to give a general description of the structural and formal features of abbreviation in the colloquial vocabulary and to study the mechanisms of forming abbreviations in modern spoken English of Internet users. Under study are grammatical and lexical characteristics of modern spoken English of Internet users, which is immeasurably contaminated by all sorts of abbreviations.

Among the most common abbreviations a focus is on the contractures, syllabic abbreviations, word abbreviations and their understanding by users of the Internet. In the formation of the latter, "ultra-conciseness", emotional coloring and disorder as their predominant characteristics stand out. The syntax has undergone significant changes, the in-version mechanism has been strengthened, a huge number of emphatic and elliptical constructions have appeared. As a result of frequent transformations in the language with the above characteristics, a "new chat sublanguage" is born, which is widespread in the virtual media. Since the vocabulary of this sublanguage abounds in a large number of abbreviated units, they were the subject of study by the author of this paper.  The analysis of these lexical units in the modern discourse of Internet users allows him to conclude about the pronounced contaminated nature of the analyzed vocabulary and its uncertain status in the use of modern English.
