The  present  article  deals  with  the  linguo-cognitive  characteristics  of  the  concept «American  materialism»  using  the  material  of  the  novel  «The  Great  Gatsby»  by  F.S. Fitzgerald. The paper provides a review of works which demonstrate that materialism plays a crucial role in the American value system and illustrates the linguistic manifestation of the given concept in the novel.
