The rendering of proper names is one of the most difficult problems any translator comes across while working. Occupying the specific position in the particular language system, proper names contain lexical, ethnographical, historical and cultural aspects. Unlike all the other words, translation of which could be found in various dictionaries, translation of proper requires some other strategies application. This fact explains the relevance of
this study for linguists and translators.

The proper names rendering problem in fiction rises out of incorrect and inappropriate translation leading to some proper names features loss and translation mistakes and inconsistency, which explains significance of the issue.  The question of rendering fiction proper names has been considered by different translation theorists like E. Breus, A. Bondarenko, D. Ermolovich, T. Kazakova etc.

The aim of the research is to study the most common strategies of rendering proper names applied in fiction from English language into Russian, namely: transcription, transliteration,
transposition and cultural replacement. The practical application of this research consists of the possibility to use the information and the findings as translation recommendations in the teaching process and during translation practice.
