SYNTACTIC AND LEXICAL-SEMANTIC TECHNIQUES AS A MEANS OF MANIPULATION IN POLITICAL DISCOURSE

The article presents an analysis of syntactic and lexical-semantic means used by English-language online magazines to manipulate the reader's consciousness. The problem of differentiation of manipulations in the interpretation of events is very important, since under the influence of mass media, incorrect ideas about life phenomena and processes can be formed in the minds of the audience. Due to the increasing role of the persistent component in the political discourse of modern media, journalists are looking for new ways, using unique language tools to draw attention to some facts and form a certain attitude to them. The manipulative nature is an integral part of modern political discourse. The article examines the historical background of this phenomenon, provides psychological and linguistic characteristics of manipulative influence. This study identifies the most relevant syntactic and lexical-semantic techniques of manipulative discourse in English-language online magazines, such as passivization, nominalization, modalization, and metaphorism. The main attention is paid to the semantic analysis of manipulative discourse as a way of critical perception of information. The results obtained can be used to develop a system of methods for countering manipulative influence in the context of the growing role of the Internet as an information resource.
