The objective of the research is the study of functional logico-semantic relations and their types in English discourse. The relevance of the study stems from the application of functional linguistics principles, which makes it possible to carry out a deep dynamic system analysis of discourse functional relations. The functional relations of discourse are considered as the link between the propositions expressed in correlated statements. The article analyzes discourse logico-semantic relations consistently formed between two (or more) sentences in English discourse. Logico-semantic relations are general order parameters of the discourse sense system that contribute to the functional and semantic organization of English speech.

The author describes the main types of logical-semantic relations (identity, inclusion, exclusion, subordination, intersection), gives examples illustrating their discursive properties. The role of English discourse components in the process of forming logico-semantic relations and creating an integral discourse sense system is specified. The research method is discourse analysis. English fiction discourse is used as the research empirical material.

The conducted study leads to the inference that semantic and structural interaction of English discourse components forms its functional relationships, which are also influenced by the environment external to the discourse (general world perception of the communicants and a specific communicative situation). Semantic interaction of discourse components determines the functional dynamics of discourse and the advancement of its sense system towards the set communicative goal.

The author concludes that logico-semantic relations are one of the key factors contributing to the optimal formation of English discourse functional space.
