The communicative aspect in the English aviation phraseology of radiotelephony between a pilot and an air traffic controller

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation and usage of English aviation phraseology. The authors' attention is focused on the communicative aspect as a fundamental factor that gave rise to all grammatical and phonetic changes in the structure of aviation English. The object of this study is the English phraseology of radio traffic, the discourse of which we have considered in the theoretical part of the work. During the analysis of the material, the following features, which affect the effectiveness of communication, were identified: the speed of information transmission, the brevity and accuracy of the description of the problem, the degree of understanding of the commands, the level of proficiency in aviation English, the presence of an accent, the technical features of the radio equipment.

The material of the practical research was the documentary series "Air crash investigation", which contains examples of the use of aviation English, since it is based on official documents of aviation industry enterprises (such as ICAO, National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration), cockpit voice recordings, as well as eyewitness accounts.

The authors concluded that the communicative aspect was of great influence on the formation of aviation phraseology of radio traffic. Effective communication has always been a motivation to optimize speech processes in professional communication between the pilot and the dispatcher. The result of this work is a graph containing a quantitative comparison of the most common structural transformations in the speech of the crew and air traffic controllers.
