The possibility of using digital educational platforms in teaching English: theoretical aspect

The article is devoted to the problem of using digital educational platforms in Russian universities for teaching English. Distance learning is a process whereby students can easily access information related to their field of study at any time and from any location. An example of a learning technology that can be associated with flexible learning is e-learning. Many higher education institutions have developed and integrated e-learning as part of the curriculum to meet the demands of higher education in the technological age. The article examines the actual theoretical aspects of the use of digital technologies in the process of teaching English in Russian higher educational institutions. The purpose of the article is to provide a brief overview of the theoretical advantages and potential risks of digital educational platforms; an analysis of their application in the process of teaching English, as well as to identify the main areas of application of some platforms to achieve the goals stated in the Federal State Educational Standard «+++» for the academic foreign language. The research methodology based on a systematic scientific approach and includes the methods of the general scientific group (analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction), as well as special methods: content analysis of scientific literature on the research topic, the method of systematization and theoretical logical generalization.

Based on the results of the study, the author concluded that the use of digital educational platforms can be significantly expand the methodological and educational base in teaching English for supporters of integrative, communicative, project-based and interactive approaches to learning.
