The article focuses on the peculiarities of forming and developing professional communication skills of the students of psychology studying English and French as languages for special purposes. French and English terms related to General Psychology were used as the material for the study. The items for the analysis were singled out using the continuous sampling method. Special attention is paid to mismatches between the pairs of English and French items that seem to act as counterparts. Most instances of such a difference are revealed to relate to spelling, pronunciation, definition and pragmatics. Having analysed reference books and guides on teaching psychology-related terminology in English and French, the authors highlight the necessity to create a comprehensive and well-structured system of teaching professional communication skills in the students of psychology whose languages for special purposes are English and French.
